"The Price of My Pig", also known as "Sheelina Gra Will You Be Mine" is an Irish
double jig in 6/8 time and A Minor. The parts are played AB (Darley & McCall) or
AABB (Cranitch).
The song was issued on 19th century broadside sheets without music but with twelve
verses about how a farmer sold his pig and was swindled out of the money.
The air is substantially that of "Sheelina Gra Will You Be Mine" that was printed in
O'Farrell's Pocket Companion, c. 1805.
The similarly-titled "The Price of the Pig" is a different tune.
It was printed in
Cranitch's Irish Fiddle Book (1996),
Cranitch's Irish Session Tunes: Red Book (2000),
Bancalari's Celtic Encyclopedia, Mandolin Edition (1999) and
Darley & McCall's The Feis Ceóil Collection of Irish Airs (1914).
It was recorded by Kim Robertson on Tender Shepherd (1992) and
Matt Cranitch on Take a Bow.
